Wow, The weather in February has been Fabulous thus far and I'm eagerly looking forward to Spring! I love hearing the frogs in the distance and the birds chirping their beautiful little songs.... it makes the soul happy!
Hallye Bone, quilt appraiser certified by the American Quilter’s Society, will be in Quincy a the Sew What Shoppe on March 8 from 10:00 to 4:00
. This will the first time that Hallye will be in Quincy to appraise quilts. For appointments, please phone 217-222-7458
Hallye has been making quilts for fifty years. She began repairing quilts in 1980 and a book came out of her experiences, “Caring for Your Quilts.” She wrote for many quilt magazines for ten years and has taught quilting both in Houston and St. Louis since 1981. She currently teaches quilt making techniques at Jackman’s Fabrics in St. Louis. She is a certified quilt appraiser by the American Quilter’s Society in Paducah. She lectures throughout the U.S. and travels widely to appraise quilts. An interesting fact about appraising is that, sometimes, newly made quilts appraise higher than old ones. The reason is the high cost of fabric, today. Vintage quilts can often be replaced, but new ones are unique. Hallye says that any day when she is making a quilt is a good day. Her favorite part of quilting is meeting other quilters, “the nicest, most generous people in America.”
